Marching with AHS

After a HOT 2 hour practice with the AHS Marching Band on Monday, we are ready to thrill you with Thriller at the Homecoming Game Thursday night! Hopefully the students are excited as I am. They looked great on Monday and are going to be awesome tomorrow night! Here are the details about Thursday night:

Meeting time: 7:30pm

When: Thursday, September 16

Where: Brady Street Stadium

What to wear: Khaki pants/capris/shorts (no shorter than 2” above knees), LCS/AHS

t-shirt/sweatshirt, tennis shoes (pay close attention to the weather and layer accordingly)

Bring: instrument, music, and flipfolder. Percussion – I will be bringing the snare drum and cymbals.

Students have the option to either sit with their parents/friends or sit with AHS Band before halftime. Keep you instruments in their cases until it’s time to meet in the grassy area before halftime (North of the home side stands). You will be able to store your cases in the grassy area while you perform. After halftime, all students that are planning to stay for the rest of the game will need to go and sit with their parents/friends. I will be leaving the stadium after the halftime show.

Fine Arts Boosters

On Tuesday, Septmeber 7th, we will be holding a Fine Arts Booster meeting at 6:00pm in the Parish Center (school cafeteria). Anyone that is interested in finding out more about FAB or would possibly like to be a part of it, please come! Jodie Schwirtz, our FAB president for two years, will be there to talk about FAB and what all was involved in her position. FYI, we are looking for someone to take Jodie's role as president. I'm hoping to see a large group on Tuesday at 6:00pm!

5th Grade Band - I met with the clarinets, oboes, and saxophone on Monday and the trumpets today. Thursday I'm meeting with the trombone and baritone, and Friday is percussion. We are off to a great start!

Middle School Band - The 6th grade band students have been in study hall during band time this week because of the upcoming 7th & 8th Grade Marching Band Clinic with AHS. After only two practices with just the 7th & 8th grade, Thriller is sounding AWESOME! As for 6th grade, we will resume regular 6th-8th grade band practices next week.

Lessons - Off to the left of my posts, you'll find a link titled 15-Minute Individual Band Lesson Schedule 2010-2011. I was only able to open it with Microsoft Word, though. If you are unable to view it, please let me know and I can email it to you. Your child also has a copy of the lesson schedule in their music folder (which is now wrong, due to the numerous changes I have had to make). The link will take you to a current lesson schedule. Hope this works for everyone!
